Google recently announced that by the end of this year, 2023, over 30 million users will be able to use a host of artificial intelligence services hosted across Google platforms. This is according to a New York Times report on Google’s announcement implementing AI.
This will include generative AI platforms that will write emails for you, and will even be a part of the Google search process.
How Is Google Trying to Compete with Other Companies by Implementing AI?
It seems like the biggest goal for Google in the AI race is to protect its own territory.
For instance, the implementation of ChatGPT into a new-and-improved Bing (called “The New Bing”) is one of the biggest threats to Google’s dominance in search since, well, probably the beginning of Google.
What Google is currently scrambling to do is create AI that will keep users nice and comfortable in Google’s services.
This makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. If Bing and Microsoft Outlook began to implement artificial intelligence, while Google’s Gmail and search engine remained free of AI, then Microsoft may very well topple the company that has a claim to be called the King of the Internet.
As a response, Google needs to beef up its search engine by implementing AI features, such as a chatbot that can answer searchers’ questions and easily summarize and retrieve information.
Will Google Implementing AI Have an Impact on Search?
The good news is that Google, according to the New York Times article cited above, is still planning on hosting advertisements on its search engine.
So, even if users just want to use the chatbot question-and-answer service, you can still advertise on search engines.
The big question is how SEO will be affected by AI in Google searches.
It would be unexpected if Google totally revamps its SEO principles, which are founded on keywords and the trustworthiness of sources, just because it is adding a chatbot.
The real challenge for businesses is that users are likely to spend less time actually scrolling through the search results page, where your company’s website might be, and instead just interact with a chatbot.
This will mean having to find out what makes a chatbot cite one website over another, making the SEO competition even more fierce than it already is.
Can Your Business Get Access to Google’s AI Services This Year?
Right now, you need to be on a waitlist to get Google’s AI services. Whether your business will get access to the AI, or even be allowed on the waitlist, depends on a number of factors.
You can try to sign up for the waitlist to try the new search here. Make sure that you are using Google Chrome.
Whether you are part of the lucky 30 million users who get to test-run the AI or not, you can be certain that these AI products will be widely available to the public within the next coming years.
